This page is for sharing resources, including handouts, brochures, seed library aids, or slides. We are also sharing library profiles and pictures for inspiration! Feel free to use them as a guide for starting and managing a seed library or for presenting to your director or Library Board. <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3FEetL9\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3FEetL9\">Reconsidering the Seed Library<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do I find seeds for my seed library? That is the question we are asked most often at MSLN.  <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1I6jwLU4V8z3jdwR-y3FmR9SxEIxmhOZIPfW671uTvks\/edit?usp=sharing\">Sourcing Seed for your Seed Library<\/a> is here to help!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking for a presenter? Our <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Mbi_L37DPgW6t2DpFrukycWcn5KtmFEBI_AQMwZTaQA\/edit?usp=sharing\">MSLN Speaker Database<\/a> might be of help.<br>It is a work in progress, so if you are a garden speaker or you have hosted one at your facility, please add to our database. Please submit all pertinent information via our <a href=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/?page_id=6\">Contact Form<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Great work is being done on behalf of seed libraries all over the world! <a href=\"https:\/\/seedlibraries.weebly.com\/\">The Seed Library Network<\/a> (not to be confused with the MI Seed Library Network) is working to establish an international seed library database. Seed Libraries Forum  <\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1yqKqRcRYh49FIL0eZqFYwn2qIgGFtpiv?usp=drive_link\">Seed Saving Posters   <\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1FpNvXj3zu2wD4CibqzWiIg91EHsg4cdx\/copy\">Seed Saving Class Slides<\/a> &#8211; make a copy for yourself to use to educate patrons   <br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seedlibrarynetwork.org\/envelopes--labels.html\">Envelopes and Labels<\/a> &#8211; including a cool seed envelope wrapper     <br>       <br><a href=\"https:\/\/goingtoseed.org\/\">Going to Seed<\/a> is another organization with a number of valuable resources to aid seed libraries in their mission to  distribute seeds and educate gardeners.  With a focus an adaptive gardening and seed saving, the website is full of information and opportunities to grow as a seed saver. Seeds are available to order on a seasonal basis, and more good things are on the way. Much of TDL Seed Library\u2019s success is thanks to a fantastic, user-friendly database system. The system uses Excel to track pertinent seed information and then merges this information into Word or Publisher to create labels for individual seed envelopes and to create indexes for inventory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many successful systems \u2013 the best advice is to find one that is easy, cost-effective, and works for you! For some great ideas, check out these examples from Tamarack District Seed Library. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/seed-database-example1.xlsx\">Download &#8211; Database Example<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img src=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180306_090502-01.jpeg?w=998\" alt=\"Herrick District Seed Library\" class=\"wp-image-101\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h4>Large Opening<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2017, the <a href=\"https:\/\/herrickdl.org\/hdlseedlibrary\">Herrick District Seed Library<\/a> had one of the largest and most successful seed library openings in Michigan. They anticipated moderate interest but their inaugural program with Ben Cohen drew 142 community members and wildly exceeded expectations. By the end of the first month, they had handed out over 2500 packets of seeds! So how did they do it? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out their info below: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/HDL-Seed-Library-INFO_Dec18.pdf\">Download<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4>Student Activities<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msunorthfarm.org\/start-seedssave-seeds-for-school-gardens.html\">Start Seeds\/Save Seeds<\/a> (S4) is a program that started in the Marquette area in 2015 to provide school garden support. The program offers educational materials and activities on transplants and seeds, and invites schools to trade seeds and stories at a community-wide Seed Swap in the fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S4 believes that \u201cSeed saving is one of the best ways to interact with the garden, because&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Seed saving is hands-on, outdoors, and experiential&nbsp;<\/li><li>Seed saving answers the question: where does food come from?&nbsp;<\/li><li>Studying seed saving illustrates the big picture in many subjects: science and biology, social studies, nutrition and health<\/li><li>Seed saving empowers students to become an informed part of the next generation of eaters (and farmers!)\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out some of their materials below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/seed-saving-activities.pdf\">Download &#8211; Student Activities<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">S4 would like to recognize all those who have invested time, money and energy in sharing seeds with students: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uproc.lib.mi.us\/pwplinfo\/index.php\/queen-city-seed-library-now-housed-in-the-peter-white-public-library\">Queen City Seed Library<\/a>, MQT Growth, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partridgecreekfarm.org\">Partridge Creek Farm<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msunorthfarm.org\">MSU North Farm<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cuppad.org\">Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Regional Development Commission<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canr.msu.edu\/delta\/\">Delta County MSU Extention.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide has-media-on-the-right has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"593\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/seedsaving1011.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/seedsaving1011.png 593w, https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/seedsaving1011-416x539.png 416w, https:\/\/miseedlibrary.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/seedsaving1011-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h4>Workshops<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.carolibrary.org\/adults\/seed-lending-library\">Caro Area District Library <\/a>began growing a seed library in 2012 with a main goal in mind: sustainability. Their program has grown every year and in 2014 Caro Area District Library began their highly successful \u201cHomegrown Food Series\u201d.
